Canada... the long way round
Yesterday was fun. A few weeks ago we had met a girl from Canada who was travelling around the UK all summer praying and telling people about Jesus. She called me the other day to say she had lost her credit card and didn't know what to do. We met up and she got to thinking that her best bet was to go home but didn't know what to do ... SO... yesterday Anneleen and Kay and I took her to the Canadian Consulate (an office in a very expensive looking building in Edinburgh's financial sector) who let her phone home to arrange her some money, then we had to get to a travel agent, book a flight, find her passport (she'd left it across town), arrange her money transfer and then get her on a bus to Glasgow airport where she flew out of this morning. It was a lot of fun... I think I could work in international diplomacy... the buildings are lush.

Later on Anneleen and myself continued our trip around the world courtesy of Ewan 'Obi Wan' McGregor and his friend Charley Boorman. In late 2003 the two of them decided to drive from London to New York across the land masses of Europe, Asia and North America and made a documentary about it called 'The Long Way Round' which is stunning. Last night we watched them go from England through to Kazakhstan. Once they got out of Europe and into Ukraine, Russia and Kazakhstan things just get amazing - beautiful ex-soviet states with no proper roads but vast desert vistas and locals with serious hospitality. Try and see it if you can.
Also worth seeing are the quirky Trachtenburg Family Slideshow Players who I saw at the Fringe this week.
